How does the unscrambler work?
Type the mixed up letters in the box. The tool first shows any word that uses every letter exactly once. Below that, it lists every shorter word you can make, longest first. Add a question mark if you have a blank tile.
How do you play the scramble game?
- Tap Play the scramble game at the top.
- A common word of five to eight letters appears with its letters mixed up.
- Type the word and press Check. Any real word that uses the same letters counts.
- Each right answer adds one to your streak. A wrong answer or Show answer resets it.
How do you unscramble words in your head?
- Find common pairs. Look for groups like TH, CH, SH, ING, ER and ED. They often sit together in the answer.
- Put vowels between consonants. Most English words alternate. Try a vowel after each hard consonant.
- Try common endings. If you see E, R or S, test ER, ES and ERS at the end.
- Say it out loud. Sounding out a few orders often makes the word jump out.
Why are scramble games good practice?
They train you to see words in a jumble of letters. That skill helps in tile games, crosswords and daily word puzzles. Kids build spelling skills, and adults keep their minds quick. A few rounds a day is enough to feel the difference.
Can one set of letters make two words?
Yes. LISTEN, SILENT, ENLIST and TINSEL all use the same six letters. Words like these are called anagrams. The unscrambler shows every one it knows, and the game accepts any of them.
How big is the word list?
The tool checks your letters against 61,112 English words, from 2 to 15 letters. The list comes from SCOWL, a free word list used by spell checkers, with rude and hurtful words removed. Here is how many words it holds at each length:
