How does the four board game work?

Each guess you type goes onto all 4 boards at once. Every board has its own hidden word and its own colours, so the same guess can be green on one board and grey on the next. You have 9 guesses in total. A board locks as soon as you solve it, and your later guesses only count on the boards still open.

The keyboard splits each key into four parts, one for each board. Left to right, the parts match the boards in reading order: top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right.

What is the best strategy for four words?

1. Open with three words that share no letters. Fifteen letters tested in three guesses gives every board plenty of clues. The set below is picked from our own word list.
2. Solve one board at a time. Once a board is down to one or two possible words, finish it. Each solved board removes noise from the keyboard.
3. Choose guesses that help open boards. A guess that solves one board and gives clues on two others is worth more than a lucky guess.
4. Keep track of your count. With nine guesses and four words, you can afford three opening guesses and still need only six more.

How hard is it compared with one word?

Harder, but not four times harder. The opening guesses help every board at once, so by guess four you often know most of the letters in all four words. The tricky part is the end, when a board still has several possible words and few guesses remain.
